Northstar™ Resort Lifestyle
Northstar is a popular year round destination resort located between the quaint town of Truckee and "the jewel of the Sierra," beautiful Lake Tahoe. The mountain opened in December 1972 after Fibreboard acquired Douglas Lumber Company in 1967. The resort is well known for its friendly atmosphere and emphasis on families. It is situated on 8000 wooded acres, with 3,170 acres of skiable terrain,100 trails, 20 lifts, and 7 award winning terrain parks. Real estate at Northstar attracts both primary and second homeowners. The real estate has mountain, forest, meadow, or and golf course views. Complimentary on-site shuttle bus service is provided by to help families cope with varying schedules – winter and summer! The Northstar™ Resort has its own community service district and 2 on-site fire stations.
The Northstar™ Resort is a nationally known alpine ski resort. High-speed lifts access more than 90% of the downhill terrain with long, well groomed cruising runs, great tree skiing, leg-burning mogul runs and specially designed runs for the snow boarder in the family (terrain parks and super pipe). For the Nordic skier the Northstar™ Resort offers acres of groomed trails that wind and dip through snow filled forests and open up to panoramic views. The Northstar™ Resort also features numerous support facilities: award-winning mountain-top restaurants (including the 500 seat Zephyr Restaurant with an additional 200 outside deck seats), a mid-mountain restaurant, rental shop, ski school, child care facilities with learn-to-ski options, ski shop and lodging accommodations. If skiing is not your interest, enjoy the spa, swim laps, grab a bite at one of the Northstar™ Resort's restaurants or check out the shops. When the snow melts, the Northstar™ Resort's 18 hole championship golf course, fly fishing lake, mountain bike park, and hiking trails will keep you actively enjoying the great outdoors.
The 2005-2006 season marked the beginning of a "new" Northstar™ Resort. The Northstar™ Resort partnered with East-West who developed luxury condominiums and a new village with quaint cobblestone streets, live music, boutique shops, restaurants, and a 9000 square foot ice skating rink (roller skating in the summer). There is also a movie theatre. East West completed 6 new buildings: Iron Horse South, Iron Horse North, Great Bear Lodge, Catamount, Big Horn, and One Village Place. There are several luxury condominiums available in this desirable location. While the New Village serves as the heart of the Northstar community, the newly developed Highlands is situated on the slopes with distinctive, ski-in/ski-out residences. Nearby, the five-star Ritz-Carleton includes 170 hotel rooms and 84 full ownership residences (23 in the hotel). The 405,000 square foot hotel opened in December 2009. At the base of the mountain is the Northstar Lodge by Welk Resorts. The Lodge has 2 to 3 bedrooms available with 1,300 to 1,900 square feet. Originally designed as shared ownerships, the condos are now marketed as single family residences.
In October 2010 Vail Resorts acquired the Northstar Resort .
